General
Go to bios then enable the cache memory L1&L2 .. (refer your bios manual)
Set your Hard Disk drive as First Bootable device
Disable Floppy seeking in boot and try other boot devices options......

Windows XP & Higher

Go to Control panel and open System

• Go to 'Advanced' tab then Click 'Error Reporting' then tick 'Disable Error Reporting' ,OK.
• Go to 'Advanced' tab then click 'Settings' under 'Performance'.
• Choose 'Custom' under 'Visual Effects'.
• Uncheck all the ticks.
• Tick only the last three options and 'Smooth edges of screen fonts' .

Go to Desktop then right click at empty area then choose 'Properties'

• Goto 'Appearance' tab under 'Display Properties'
• Then choose 'Effects'
• Uncheck all the options , Check only the Second Option 'Use the following method ...... ' then choose 'ClearType' from the pulldown menu.
• Click OK , Apply then OK

After all run Defragment utility for all Hard Disk partitions / drives.

Your System will run faster than before !

You can also speed up your system by disabling all the Visual Effects , After this your system looks like older Windows like 2000,98..

Protect Files & Folders without any Utility

Protect your Files & Folders without using any third party tool in Windows 2K,XP,2k3,Vista..

• Create a User Account with password / Create Password for your current windows account
• Login with that account in to the Windows,
• Open any folder and open 'Folder Options' from Tools > Folder Options.Select the 'View' tab from 'Folder Options' then uncheck the 'Use Simple File Sharing (Recommened) ' this is the last option in the Advanced settings.Click Apply then OK.
• Right click the file / folder which is to be protected, then click properties then choose 'Security' tab , here you can change the permission for every users on that folder / file , by using this Permission settings you can allow / deny the access to the file / folder.

You can also use this Security features in User Account without passwords .

Delete an 'undeletable' file in Windows

• Open a Command Prompt window (Start > Run > type "cmd" ).
• Close all open programs - leave only the command prompt window open.
• Next,click Start > Run and enter taskmgr.exe to launch Task Manager.
• Go to the 'Processes' tab and select Explorer.exe from the list and click the 'End Process' Button.Leave the Task Manager open
• Go back the Command Prompt window and switch to the directory where the undeletable file is located.
• At the commmand prompt, type DEL filename . filename is the file you wish to delete.
• Go back to the Task Manager, click 'File > New Task' and enter EXPLORER.EXE to restart the GUI shell. (Explorer)

Increase your Bandwidth

Windows uses 20% of your bandwidth! Get it back A nice little tweak for XP. Microsoft reserve 20% of your available bandwidth for their own purposes (suspect for updates and interrogating your machine etc..)
Here's how to get it back:
Click Start-->Run-->type "gpedit.msc" without quotes
This opens the group policy editor.
Then go to: Local Computer Policy>Computer Configuration>Administrative Templates >Network>QOS Packet Scheduler>Limit Reservable Bandwidth
Double click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. It will say it is not configured, but the truth is under the 'Explain' tab : "By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default." So the trick is to ENABLE reservable bandwidth, then set it to ZERO. This will allow the system to reserve nothing, rather than the default 20%. works on all windows editions from Windows millenium and greater

( Bandwidth = the amount of data that can be carried from one point to another in a given time period )
